2. Mary Gilbert addressed the group. She lobbies for St. Paul Public Schools at the capitol. For more information on legislative issues affecting education in Minnesota, look to parentsunited.org.

3. Mary Yackley and our very own Michelle Wall presented on proposed revisons to the district’s Wellness Policy. See below for details. Some of the points discussed: forming site wellness teams; refrain from limiting exercise or physical activity as consequence to negative behavior/academic status; presence of health clinics and “hydration stations” (cold, delicious water) in secondary schools; teaching healthy eating choices.

4. Discussion regarding individual school “site councils” vs. PTA. They were loosely defined: site council – supports outcomes/goals of the school; PTA – deals with internal issues such as fundraising and parent outreach. There was talk of how the district could offer training guidance to site councils for stronger impact as well as ongoing open dialogue with the district.

5. Next DPAC meeting – Tues, Dec 11
